Some Interesting Facts About Melanie!
Did you know that Melanie:
- planted an American Chestnut tree in her yard, which is now almost ten years old. The largest surviving natural grove of American Chestnut trees is located in West Salem, Wisconsin. American Chestnut trees were nearly wiped out in the early 1900s due to blight!
- has completed the Kortelopet (half the Birkie) twice!
- was a Truman Scholar Finalist in 1992, UW-Madison's first engineering student nominee for the competition which awards scholarships to those pursuing careers in public service!
- can talk for hours about the different species of cranes found throughout the world. And that while walking door to door on March 8, 2008, south of County PD near Dorchester, she heard and saw a solo whooping crane flying north!
- had a great-grandfather - William C. Zillmer - who was on the Waukesha County Board from 1924 through 1955!
